The Birth Parent Counseling Project is a service specifically for
parents who are involved in a court case that may consider termination
of their parental rights or guardianship arrangement. This program
is available for parents who wish to receive counseling related
to this process. Participation is not required by the court.
The program provides:
• Counseling and information about your options.
• Help in making the best decision for you and your child(ren).
• Support as you develop a plan that meets your family’s
specific needs.
Fees are covered by most insurance companies, including Medicaid.

The goals of the Birth Parent Counseling
Program:
• To assist parents in identifying their personal conflict,
anger and fears related to the court process.
• To help parents with questions and issues involved with
the court process.
• To help parents focus on their children’s best interests.
• To help parents communicate and work with the other people
who are involved with their children.
Counselors are experienced, sensitive and caring clinical social
workers with extensive experience working with families in complex
situations. They are trained and experienced in working with birth
parents to help them with the specific issues they face throughout
the court process.
