I was in prison and away from my daughter for two years. The days were long and we missed each other terribly. We would talk on the phone and my little girl would say "Just 5 more days until I see you Mommy," then "just 4 more days," and we would count down every day until we could see each other. The social workers from Children's Aid made the unbearable time apart bearable, and helped make our time together as normal as possible. They brought a birthday cake for her birthdays, which I would have had no way to do, and helped provide presents on Christmas. And more than that, they were friends who listened and cared. I don't think I would have gotten through it without them. And I know that it's their help that kept our mother-child bond strong so we can now become a family again. — S., VCAS Client of Mothers & Families United and Counseling Services E-mail this story to a friend Support This Program

He is very excited about being a Leader in Training and taking it all very seriously. This morning he spread all of his Camp T-shirts from each year out on the bed and talked about how much he's grown and changed from year to year. I have to thank you again for all of these years of support and caring. It means the world to him! — K., Camp ForMe Parent E-mail this story to a friend Support This Program
Our VCAS social worker was with us through all the stages of adoption. She was there when things were tough, and there at the final, legal adoption, where everyone was happy, taking pictures, and taking care of all that paperwork. She laughed and cried with us and supported us through every stage. This agency is the one that built our family. — J., Adoptive Mom E-mail this story to a friend Support This Program
Why did we choose VCAS?
Initially, we did not have any knowledge of VCAS until Catholic Charities referred us to the Agency. We called, and spoke with Dorsey Naylor. From that first appointment, we were “hooked.” The building (with its austere surroundings) and dedicated staff drew us in, the people who worked here cared deeply about their calling to help children. Dorsey was a welcoming, very professional, confident social worker, who knew adoption, cared about our feelings and was willing to advocate on our behalf. She was compassionate yet very clear as she directed us to the particular programs which would accept us as prospective adoptive parents. Throughout our first adoption Dorsey was excellent, she returned our many calls, clarified questions about paperwork and was very pleasant throughout the home study process. Our relationship blossomed and through all the trials and tribulations of our first international adoption, Dorsey held our hand with measured confidence. We couldn’t have done it without her! When we decided to continue our adoption journey and bring our second child home from Vietnam, VCAS, our adoption shepherd exceeded our expectations. Once again, Dorsey and the VCAS staff supported us. It has been a wonderful experience and as result, we formed lifelong relationships with the Agency as a whole. Our children continue to enjoy Camp For Me and we continue be in awe of the wonderful work VCAS is doing to make this world a better place, not just for the children, but for all of us. Thank you VCAS!
