I want to know more about Camp ForMe

The recent changes at Vermont Children’s Aid Society have impacted many programs, and Camp ForMe is no exception.  We are extremely proud of the years of happy memories that we have been able to provide our campers and their families.

Please take a few minutes to read through the following FAQ’s.

  1. How do the changes at Vermont Children’s Aid Society affect Camp ForMe ?
  1. We understand that for 14 years Camp ForMe has made an incredible difference in the lives of so many adopted children and their families.  After last year’s camp season, the founders and continuing force behind Camp ForMe , Alice Siegriest and Sally Utter decided that the time had come for them to pass the torch.  The Board of Directors of Vermont Children’s Aid met and carefully reviewed the options for Camp ForMe .  It was determined that the campers and their families would be better served by an organization with a focus on adoption.  Recognizing the importance of continuing a camp for adopted children, the Board has instructed the Executive Director to work with organizations currently serving adoptive families to determine the feasibility of another organization carrying on the Camp ForMe tradition.
  1. How will this change Camp ForMe ?
  1. We cannot make any guarantees on what a new Camp ForMe might look like.  As with any transition, change plays a major role.  At Children’s Aid we view this as a positive opportunity.  We have always strived to ensure our campers have a meaningful experience every year and a change in leadership – a fresh look at the Camp ForMe experience – will enhance the experience of our campers.
  1. Who will be taking over?
  1. That decision has not yet been made, but you can be sure we are carefully considering the options and will chose the one that will most benefit the children and their families.
  1. What if no other organization wants to take on Camp?
  1. We are hopeful that is not the case.  The adoption community recognizes the importance of Camp ForMe and it is our hope that there will continue to be an opportunity for children to benefit from the experience of going to camp where everyone is “just like me.”
  1. When will you know who will be running Camp?
  1. We realize that this period of transition at Children’s Aid is stressful.  We are working diligently to make timely, informed decisions and will notify our Camp families by letter as soon as a new direction for Camp ForMe has been determined.
